From Chojabaru atop the Handa Plateau along the Yamanami Highway, diners can enjoy a breathtaking view of Kokonoe. Here, our cooks insist on using the finest ingredients, including locally sourced rice, tomatoes, Bungo Beef, and Kokonoe Yume pork. Even the oil we use is made in Japan with no additives. The owner has long believed in serving food that health-conscious customers can enjoy without worry.

We also have a robust menu in our 1st floor cafe. We craft all our western-style sweets and baked confections by hand, using domestic butter, locally produced eggs, Jersey milk, and Kyushu fresh cream. Also, be sure to enjoy our original coffee prepared with cloth filters and Kokonoe spring water.

At Katsura Chaya, we want to provide our customers with a lovely environment to enjoy. Located in the middle of Kyusuikei Valley, where people gather every year to see the fall foliage, our restaurant has earned acclaim for our soba, udon, large meal set selection, and our lineup of souvenirs. We make our noodles and meal sets the old-fashioned way to serve our customers. For the perfect balance of volume and flavor, we recommend our Toriten set and our Inaka Udon!

With an altitude of 900m, our restaurant has a gorgeous view of Oita Prefecture. All of the Bungo beef used to make our menu is raised with care in our very own pastures. The secret ingredients behind our delicious dishes are the fresh spring water, Oita Prefecture’s unique Kuroge Wagyu called Bungo beef, and the koshihikari rice cultivated by our business partners. If you have a craving for meat, there’s no better place than here. We serve a mix of wagyu steak and Kokonoe Yume pork. Our restaurant can also host groups of up to 50 people. Our owner only chooses fresh rice, shiitake mushrooms, bell peppers, and other ingredients grown in Kokonoe as part of his mission to promote health. We also apply strict standards to the miso and soy sauces that enhance the flavor of our handmade dishes made from these amazing ingredients.

We also developed an original medicinal noodle dish for those with allergies using medicinal herbs like obako and chameleon plant without any soba, Oita fried chicken, or Kokonoe Yume pork.

We can host large groups of up to 250 people at our restaurant as well. Our restaurant is directly between the Kokonoe Yume Otsuribashi Bridge and Aso Kuju National Park and has parking space for large vehicles.

Our restaurant is popular among the locals as the spot next to Hosenji Onsen with every Oita local dish you can think of. Our food is as appealing to the eye as it is to the stomach, with dishes like Kokonoe’s Yamame Shioyaki and the charcoal-grilled chicken cooked on a plate made from Aso’s hardened lava. Our meat sauces and miso are all hand-made from rice and vegetables.

Our restaurant serves teppanyaki dishes with carefully selected cuts of wagyu steak. We also take great pride in our great selection of sets, including fried chicken, curry, hamburg steak, and our number one most popular chicken nanban. Our restaurant has tables, tatami floor seating, and sunken kotatsu for a variety of seating options that can even accommodate families with small children. As a restaurant at the entrance to the Kuju Mountain Range, we have even gained local popularity for our menu of robust dishes that satisfy hunger on the long road ahead.
